Mexico Missions

Horizon Community Church strives to be a blessing to the community. This includes in other countries for families in Mexico. This week, involving building houses, participating in Vacation Bible School within the community, and participating in strong fellowship with other believers, has become a spiritual milestone for many participants’ walk with God.

Joining with Dennis and Debbie Hollenbeck & Real Life Ministries for over 20 years, this mission trip has been, and will continue to be a blessing to both the families we build for and the participants. Families, including families with littles, students, and adults alike can find a purpose on this trip and have an eye-opening experience.

Horizons Mexico trips take place during the summertime, but there are many other ways to get involved with the Hollenbeck family and Real Life Ministries!

DAte TBD:

    • Prayerfully Consider supporting the Mexico Mission financially! The cost of building a house is around $12,000, while the whole trip might cost us $40-50,000 depending on the number of participants and specific projects.

    • You can give a general gift to the overall Mexico fund, or specifically towards the fees and costs of an individual attendee! Each attendee is trying to raise at least $300 to cover part of their expenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.    Is Ensenada safe?

No, and neither is Galt or Lodi. I would never promise to have a safe trip just as I would never promise to have a safe day taking a group to the movies. Horizon has gone to Ensenada for over 20 years and has never had a problem. We take precautions and work with the local ministries to do everything in our hands to make it a safe trip.

 2.    What if I don’t like the food or have a food allergy?

We have always been able to accommodate food allergies. The cook at the ministry site is able to take care of your needs. With that being said, we have a large group. So, we cannot accommodate you because you do not like something. Fortunately, there are lots of foods to choose from and the food is amazing.

 3.    What are the bathroom situations?

The ministry site has flushable toilets and functional showers. When we go to the construction site, the bathroom situations vary. However, we do make sure we have a bathroom whether it’s an outhouse or a flushable toilet.

 4.    What if I can’t afford the trip?

Horizon, as a church, does everything it can to make this trip as affordable as possible. We have church fundraisers for our trip and encourage our participants to raise individual support as well. In the past, we have gotten some outside donations but typically aren’t able to apply for such scholarships till the very end. Do everything you can to fundraise your portion of the trip yourself and communicate early on if you think this will be an issue.

 5.    Will my child or will I be able to help?

YES! Whether you speak Spanish or not, showing up to show these youth the love of Christ is so important for their salvation. God uses his children of all ages and all cultures for His work. “My favorite attendee when I interned was the 4-year-old. The dad thought she would be a hindrance to the team. But the family had a 5 year old and they played together all week. God uses each one of us in different ways.” -Brooke

 6.    Do I need my passport?

Yes, everyone on the trip is required to have a passport. It takes 4-8 weeks to get a passport unless expedited. So be diligent. You may use a passport card or a passport book.
